    Audio Fidelity continues to bring classic albums to market with the release of Jimmy Reed at Carnegie Hall in the Super Audio CD format. The new edition of this album features all 23 songs from the original release which initially appeared as a 2 album set on Vinyl LP in the 1960's on the VeeJay label and was later reissued as a Stereo CD.

    Every young person that has ever aspired to rock stardom since the 70s knows the riffs of "Smoke on the Water". Its simplistic structure and ease of movement on the fretboard makes it the 'go-to' warmup or the introductory lesson in learning to play the instrument. If you didn't play this on an actual guitar, then you have on air guitar at some point. It is easily Deep Purple's most recognizable tune and is definitely their signature song.

    At the recent Home Entertainment 2003 show, Audio Fidelity released their two latest Hybrid Stereo SACDs by Tommy Turrentine and Lightnin' Hopkins. Audio Fidelity's owner, Marshall Blonstein, was at the Elusive Disc booth at the show on Friday and Saturday and I had a chance to chat with him and catch up on the latest goings on at the label.

    The three new ear-opening re-releases from Audio Fidelity that showed up last week are: John Lee Hooker, Boogie Chillen', AFZ 005 (2003); Sonny Clark, Sonny Clark Trio, AFZ 006 (2003); and Ritchie Valens, Ritchie Valens Greatest Hits, AFZ 008 (2003). These releases are done in hybrid Super Audio (SACD) format, which is compatible with plain old vanilla CD players. The sound is quite good in either format, but a noticeable notch better in SACD.

    Buddy Holly was not the only musician to die in that plane in 1959. Also on board was up and coming Ritchie Valens, not yet eighteen but already mounting an assault on the pop charts. Was he headed to the top? We will never know. He only left behind three albums and a few singles to testify to his promising talent.

    The Zombies recorded output between the years 1964 through 1968 produced a collection of songs that were as classic as many of their peers of the time. The Zombies featured prolific songwriter and advancing rock artist in Rod Argent who went on to form Argent and who created more timeless classics like "Hold Your Head Up" and the anthemic "God Gave Rock And Roll To You". But during his tenure with The Zombies, he penned and helped to produce "She's Not There", "Time of the Season", and "Tell Her No". All of these tunes are classics in their own right.

    Earlier this week, Audio Fidelity released their latest SACD - A Session With the Sonny Clark Trio. They also moved the SACDs they debuted at the CES 2003 show by Ritchie Valens and John Lee Hooker into general release.     Audio Fidelity's 7th SACD release is the new album entitled "A Session With The Sonny Clark Trio" (Audio Fidelity AFZ 006).

    Ventura Calif. based record company Audio Fidelity has released three new titles this week as part of its ongoing series of dual layered Super Audio Compact Discs. The increasingly popular SACD format involves technology that allows for a higher resolution listening experience within the user’s environment. Audio Fidelity titles also contain a musically equivalent standard CD layer – fully compatible will all current Compact Disc Players for a surprisingly low list price of $15.98.

    Audio Fidelity, the new audiophile record label formed by the founder of DCC Compact Classics has released its first 4 SACD discs. As we reported earlier, the initial releases feature recordings by the Zombies, Mel Torme with Symphony Orchestra, Buddy Rich and his Band and the Cal Tjader Quintet.

    Along with the initial 4 SACD releases, Audio Fidelity also announced more information on the next 4 SACD releases and unveiled new artwork that will be used on their SACD releases, starting after the first of the year.
