Carly Simon, “No Secrets” - 24K Gold Edition, (Audio Fidelity). 4 stars

While vinyl may be making its own comeback of late, there are still folks determined to get the best in sound out of the much maligned CD format.

One listen to Audio Fidelity’s new 24 Karat gold edition of Carly Simon’s magnificent 1972 album “No Secrets” should be enough to convince any cynics as the limited edition release sounds exquisite, with the high, lows and mid-range all balanced perfect and an overall warmth not found on most conventional CDs.

The fact that it is the best album of Simon’s career doesn’t hurt things either. From the iconic album cover to the classic material, which includes “You’re so Vain,” with Mick Jagger on backing vocals to “The Right Thing to Do” and the sensual “Waited So Long,” Simon is at her peak. She’s also got a huge cast of A-list guests on board, among them, Paul McCartney, James Taylor, Lowell George, Bonnie Bramlett and Klaus Voorman, all of whom make fine contributions without ever shifting the spotlight away from Simon.

All these years later it has held up extremely well, and the 24K gold edition adds to this high-quality re-issue.
